Surface Prep Cost

Over two decades ago, Dr. John T. McElveen founded Carolina Ear & Hearing Clinic, PC, a private medical and surgical practice specializing in the diseases of the ear. As experts in Otology and Neurotology, our team focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of disorders involving the ear, its related skull base structures, and specific areas of the central nervous system. Both are highly specialized areas, requiring at least five years of residency training, in addition to completion of medical school and Otology and Neurotology fellowship training.

If you have a asphalt, concrete, or tile surface that's cracking or falling apart, the concrete contractor or tile contractor probably didn't spend much time on the surface prep. With those surfacing options, if the prep work is wrong, your surface will fail with time. For Rubber Stone or Sierra Stone, the prep work process is more forgiving. It is quick and easy and takes less time. This means you spend less on prepping a surface no one will ever see and we can get to the application step quicker.

Rubber Stone vs Concrete Cost

There is nothing worse than looking outside at your pool surrounded by wet concrete or newly applied tile. Concrete and tile don't only take longer to cure than Rubber Stone, the process takes longer. Humidity, heat, and of course, rain, can also play a big factor when it comes to tile or concrete.

Rubber Stone is applied to pool decks, patios, driveways and more in a fraction of the time it takes for other surface options and is ready for use in no time. Humidity and heat can play a small role in how quickly we need to lay it down, but unlike concrete, it won't change the finished product. If concrete dries too quickly it will crack. If it dries too slow, you'll be looking at your pool for a long time.

Simply put, Rubber Stone is a quick resurfacing option that is simpler to apply and requires less logistics. The product is mixed on-site, and is applied with hand tools, and in larger applications other tools that spread it over a wider area quicker.

Ongoing Maintenance Cost

When it comes to pool decks, proper concrete maintenance increases the potential for falls, slips, and worse - death.

To properly maintain a concrete surface, you are supposed to seal the surface with a concrete sealer. This leaves your pool deck very slippery, especially when it gets wet. This is especially dangerous if you have kids. As many times as we tell them, they still run around the pool. The problem is, if you don't seal the concrete pool deck, the life expectancy of concrete is drastically reduced. While concrete sealer isn't expensive, and you can do it yourself, we recommend against it, especially on pool decks and other surfaces that get heavy foot traffic.

Tile isn't much better. The large flat surface areas of tile also get slippery. Experts recommend sealing stone pavers and tile to increase the lifespan, but what's the risk? Again, people can slip and fall. When you seal tile, pavers, or concrete, it is recommended that the surface be thoroughly cleaned, and stains be removed. Typical diy power washers may not be up for the task and can require a costly professional.

The Rubber Stone and Sierra Stone products are not only safer for pool decks, the maintenance can be done on your own and is only required every 3-5 years. Resealing a Rubber Stone surface doesn't turn your pool deck into a slip hazard and cleaning it prior to sealing can be done with a regular power washer.

One of the best things about Rubber Stone is it is flexible. If you drop something on it, it absorbs the impact and typically doesn't damage the surface. If you do somehow damage the surface, it can be fixed quickly and easily and is virtually invisible afterwards.
